Growing up, Dr. Melissa Elizee loved volunteering at the nursing home where her mother worked. “I got to learn so much about the type of work and patients that she would work with, which made me develop a strong interest in geriatrics,” she explains. She adds, “I take pleasure in providing person-centered care.” Her favorite part of her profession is “making a difference” in the lives of her patients and “educating them about their health.” She considers herself an “active listener” and likes getting to know her patients on a personal level. “I advocate for my patients and engage them in their care plans,” she says. In her free time, Dr. Elizee loves spending time with her husband and two sons. She also enjoys kayaking and reading.

Dr. Julie Allen saw the impact that communication and cultural understanding has on patient care when her father had health problems—and it inspired her to become a physician. “I truly enjoy meeting patients, and I try to make a difference in their day with a friendly face, positive attitude, and respect,” says Dr. Allen, who is board-certified in family medicine. “As I help my senior patients meet their health goals, I enjoy learning from them as well.” When she’s not working or keeping up with medical research, Dr. Allen likes to shop for décor, cook for a crowd, cheer on the New York Giants and Atlanta Falcons, and visit family in the northeast. She hopes to see France and Italy one day, too.

Lisa Cox is grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives. “I have always wanted to make the world a better place, and healthcare is the perfect setting to put this philosophy into action,” she says. She enjoys getting to know her patients. “I know more about medicine, but they are the expert when it comes to their own life, struggles, and capabilities. I want to understand these, so we can build on their strengths and address challenges together,” she explains. She believes healthcare should focus more on wellness rather than only sickness. In her free time, Lisa Cox loves spending time with her daughter and mom. She also finds joy in engaging in various art projects, like embroidery and crocheting.

Dr. Aaron Pascual always knew he wanted to work in healthcare. “My love for science and to help others had no better fusion than to become a physician,” he says. He takes pride in being purposeful and sincere. “Being a patient is a very vulnerable experience and so by being as welcoming and genuine as possible, it helps to lay the foundation for a trusting and rewarding relationship,” Dr. Pascual explains. He says he felt especially compelled to work with the senior population after witnessing the lingering effects of COVID-19. Dr. Pascual considers this profession his calling. When not with patients, he loves spending time with his growing family. A fun fact about Dr. Pascual is that he was an avid scuba diver during college.
